
Interesting food initiative in Peru
[06-06-2012]The National Food Assistance Program (PRONAA) is an Executive Unit of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion which aims to combat hunger in the poorest areas of the country and contribute to food security., is the new program that replaces the PRONAA, It has a clear orientation to articulate and channel the food production at local and regional level to go to social programs. The objective is to revitalize the agricultural market with the direct participation of agricultural producers organized.
"The goal is to improve the eating habits of the children, promote the development and recognition of regional cuisines, ensuring that our children learn, assess, exploit and enjoy the products of their regions as a basic part of their school feeding programs with quality", said the Director General for Decentralization and Coordination Programme, Ministry of Social Development and Inclusion (MIDIS), Janeth Bouby Cerna.
Another interesting feature of this program is that the shopping basket Qali Warma, includes native products that are currently excluded.
In this regard, CONVEAGRO supported the decision of deactivating PRONAA and stresses the relevance of working jointly with farmers organizations in order to achieve success
