Graziano da Silva is FAO's new director-general
[06-27-2011]
José Graziano da Silva will be the new director-general of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) after winning over the Spanish candidate Miguel Ángel Moratinos with a difference of four votes.
Da Silva has centred his programme on five pillars: “eradicate hunger”, succeed in achieving the Millennium Development Goal to reduce poverty by half by 2015, increase the production and consumption of food, implement several measures which permit a “new and sustainable” balance between the production and the consumption of food, complete the reform process of the FAO and amplify the cooperation between the different bodies of the organization.
