FAO says that international aid to Haiti must respect food sovereignty

[03-15-2010]

The General Director of the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Jacques Diouf, said the aid that the international community sent to Haiti after the earthquake of 12 January, must respect the national food sovereignty.

Diouf, who is visiting the Caribbean country, made his statements after an informal meeting with Haitian President René Préval, after the president will meet with the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon.
