Last August 18th 2011 the FAO held a meeting in Rome about the Famine in the Corn of Africa. The World Rural Forum, in the name of the Campaign in favour of the Declaration of the International Year of Family Farming made the following statement.
As the Minister of Agriculture, Rosa Aguilar, declared "this bill aims to adapt legal context to social reality so that rural women can take advantage of an effective rights equality"
As the UN has declared, this region in Africa represents the most serious food insecurity situation in the world.
Last Saturday, 2nd July 2011, the plenary of the 37th FAO Conference ratified the Resolution introduced by the Philippino delegation (see attached text), supported by more than 15 countries, without any opposition, requesting UN General Assembly to declare in 2011 the International Year of Family Farming-IYFF, to be implemented during 2014.

José Graziano da Silva will be the new director-general of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) after winning over the Spanish candidate Miguel Ángel Moratinos with a difference of four votes.
From today until September 28, registration for the Family Farming World Conference will remain open. This Conference, organized by World Rural Forum, will be held in Bilbao between 5-7 of October.
The World Rural Forum organizes a World Conference on Family Farming which will take place from 5th to 7th of October 2011 in Bilbao.
